What Crisis Taught Me About The Power Of Order
I’ve spent the last several years running a safehouse for survivors of sex trafficking—a place where women come to heal, stabilize, and begin again. It’s sacred work. It’s also deeply unpredictable.
If you’ve ever worked in a crisis setting, you already know: crisis doesn’t care about your to-do list.
It doesn’t wait until you're rested or caught up. It doesn’t pause because you’re having a bad day, can’t find your keys, or double-booked yourself. Crisis shows up—loud, chaotic, relentless. And it almost never follows the plan.
That’s the thing about crisis—it’s rarely consistent. It brings along its cousin, chaos, and together they thrive on disorder, confusion, and emotional exhaustion.
That’s why, in environments like ours, order isn’t a luxury—it’s a lifeline.
At our safehouse, we run on routine. Not because we’re rigid, but because routine is what brings safety. Consistency is what builds trust. Simplicity is what makes room for healing. We keep our space clean, our schedules predictable, and our systems clear. Why? Because regulation requires rhythm.
Have you ever tried to deescalate someone in a messy, cluttered space? It’s hard. Our brains struggle to calm down in disarray. Chaos on the outside fuels chaos on the inside. But when our environment is in order—when things are simple and predictable—our nervous system begins to settle. We don’t have to waste energy finding our shoes, keys, or next steps. We can use that energy to heal.
Order supports healing. Routine builds safety. Simplicity creates space to breathe.
And that’s not just true for survivors—it’s true for all of us.
After years of working in crisis, I’ve come to believe something: creating order in your life is not just about being organized. It’s about creating space for peace to grow.
That’s exactly why I created The Clarity Edit—an 8-week guided journey to help you uncover what matters, simplify your space and schedule, and build the kind of rhythms that restore. Whether your life feels chaotic or just cluttered, clarity brings calm.
You don’t need more hustle. You need more clarity.
